After settling in, the afternoon and evening is yours to explore the compact & vibrant city centre with its abundance of museums, restaurants and bars to suit all tastes. If you're interested in checking out Icelandic design or experiencing the city's thriving coffee culture, head to the main street, Laugavegur, and enjoy its various shops and cosy cafes. Be sure to check out the Harp Opera house on the harbour.
We also suggest a visit to the Aurora Reykjavik Museum in the heart of downtown. It is Iceland's first educational and recreational Northern Lights Centre where multimedia is used to explain when, why and how the Northern Lights work, with the highlights being large HD projection of the Auroras.
The Golden Circle, Iceland’s most popular route, combines natural wonders and rich history. It begins at Þingvellir National Park, where Iceland’s parliament was founded in 930 A.D., and visitors can walk between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. A short hike leads to Öxarárfoss waterfall.
Next, stop at Efstidalur dairy farm for organic homemade ice cream and views of Mount Hekla, with opportunities to interact with Icelandic cows, horses, and dogs. Continue to the Geysir geothermal area to see Strokkur erupt, followed by the majestic Gullfoss waterfall.
There will be a stop at Friðheimar tomato farm where you can purchase lunch before visiting Kerið Crater Lake, a 3,000-year-old volcanic caldera. This small-group tour highlights Iceland’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
The scenic journey from Reykjavik to South Iceland offers a striking transition from lush lowlands to dramatic mountainous terrain, complete with glaciers and volcanoes. Your first stop is the iconic Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where, if conditions permit, you can walk behind the cascading water. Next discover the hidden Gljúfrabúi waterfall followed by Skógafoss, a magnificent 60-meter waterfall, perfect for photography and a moment of awe in nature's grandeur. Continue to Vík í Mýrdal, Iceland's only coastal village without a harbour, where sweeping views from the church provide a fantastic vantage point for photos. At Reynisfjara, the famous black sand beach, explore the striking coastal cliffs and watch as powerful North Atlantic waves crash onto the shore. Finally, cap off your adventure with a visit to Sólheimajökull glacier, where you can step onto the ice before returning to Reykjavik.
Be sure to carry warm clothing, rain gear and good shoes.
