Äkäslompolo
Tiny village in Finnish Lapland
The village of Äkäslompolo is located 200 km north of the Arctic Circle, deep in Finnish Lapland surrounded by the peaceful old forests of the Pallas-Ylläs Nature Park.
It is situated next to a lake of the same name, north west of the town of Kolari. Äkäslompolo had approx. 400 inhabitants. It is surrounded by ski fields and cross country tracks and is a popular holiday cabin area. This small village holds a very special place in the heart of 50 Degrees North, with many of our staff visiting here with their own families to meet Santa in the forest.
We have several tours that stay in Äkäslompolo during winter. Our best-selling escorted Christmas tours make Äkäslompolo their home as well as the independent log cabin stay, see below for details.
