Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrive and drive to Sørvágur and surrounding area.
Arrive at Vágar Airport and pick-up your rental car from the airport.
First stop is only some 200 metres down the road, a local hotel. After check in, take a drive to the small and picturesque villages Bøur and Gásadalur. The tour offers an unparalleled view of the fjord, the islet Tindhólmur and Mykines. Until recently the only way to get to charming Gásadalur was on foot from Bøur and over the mountain. Although there now is a tunnel to Gásadalur, the village is still unspoiled and has preserved its charm and authenticity.
Day 2 - Island of Mykines and the village of Gjógv
Meet your guide in Sørvágur, just 5-minutes away from your hotel, ready to take the ferry to the Mykines island at 10:20. After ca. 45min ferry journey and on arrival at Mykines, you will go on a guided tour of the village with some refreshments. After that continue on a guided walk to Mykineshólmur, which is connected to the main island by a wooden footbridge over a 35 meter deep gorge and ends with spectacular views from the lighthouse. You will be walking directly through the Puffin colony, so expect "close encounters of the bird kind" and many photo opportunities. Return ferry to Sørvágur at 17:05.
Please note: this tour is only available until end of August. Due to landslide in 2022, it may be impossible to walk all the way to Mykineshólmur.
From Sørvágur, continue to the picturesque village of Gjógv. On the way there you will pass the first subsea tunnel, which on the deepest spot is more than 105 meters under sea level. The drive is ca. 75km and takes little over an hour.
Enjoy the next two nights at the unique Hotel Gjáargarður in Gjógv. There is a small restaurant within this quaint hotel.

We suggest a trip to Tjørnavík - a walk along the beach where you might find remainings from the vikings, as this is the place where the viking settled first in the Faroe Islands.
A stop in Saksun is at must. The village is surrounded by steep mountains and a lagoon-like lake with a sandy beach leading the way out to the Atlantic Ocean. If the tide is going out to can walk all the way out to the sea. Back in the village you can take the opportunity to visit the church and the old farmhouse Dúvugarðar.

The best known of them is the legend about the seal woman who was captured and forced to marry a farmer´s son from Mikladalur and had children with him. But she longed to go back to the sea and one day when her husband had gone fishing, she found the key to the chest where her seal skin was hidden, put it on and returned to her natural element.
