Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Longyearbyen and Arctic Wilderness Dinner

Longyearbyen is 2.50 hr flight from Oslo or 1.35 hr flight from Tromsø and a scenic one as it skirts the long coast of Norway. On arrival, private transfer into Longyearbyen.

Check into the Funken Hotel and head off for stroll around the small township of Longyearbyen - enjoy the polar museum and church. The midnight sun makes it possible to explore Spitsbergen day or night –  but be back in time for your evening Arctic Wilderness adventure.

Travel out to Camp Barentz, which boasts an amazing location at the foot of the mountain, Breinosa, right below Mine 7. One of the buildings at the camp, Barentz Hus, is a copy of the cabin that the discoverer of Svalbard, Willem Barentz, overwintered in on Novaya Zemlya in 1596. Here, far from town, you can take in the stunning Svalbard landscape. At Camp Barentz, you often see Svalbard reindeer, and even grouse and foxes if you are lucky. Our knowledgeable hosts are also on watch in case a polar bear should appear.

Good drinks and a delicious homemade reindeer soup will be served, together with campfire coffee and dessert.

This evening includes transport from your accommodation, reindeer soup, drinks, campfire coffee, homemade cake and presentation about polar bears.

Day 2 - Day cruise to see the best of Svalbard's Fjords

MS Bard is a new and groundbreaking catamaran for day cruises, specially built to leave the smallest footprint possible in the vulnerable Arctic nature. The hybrid-electric motor allows both guests and wildlife to relax, and glides quietly through the water where this matters most.

The boat has a contemporary, Norwegian design with spacious layout. You are free to move on several outdoor decks, or enjoy the view from inside through massive panoramic windows. Comfortable lounges are available outside as well as indoors. There is plenty of space on board and everyone can enjoy Svalbard's endless and spectacular landscape without crowding. Inside the lounge you will find a café and bar with a varied selection of snacks and drinks.

Return back to Longyearbyen with time for a walk or explore during the afternoon.

Day 3 - Mountain hiking around Longyearbyen

This afternoon, you will head out on a 4 hour Puffin safari on Isfjorden with an open, steady Polarcirkel boat. After getting well dressed with outer gear provided, head out on the fjord to search for arctics own parrot, the Atlantic Puffin. The trip takes you east, further into the massive Isfjord, towards Diabas and the unique geology that creates the perfect home for our summer guests. In this small cliff you can find approximately 100 breeding pairs of Atlantic Puffins and the 10 double of Brünnich’s Guillemot.

From May to the end of July, the areas around the fjord are bursting with birds that have migrated from all corners of the world. With some luck, you may also spot some whales along the way.

This evening, enjoy a 3-course menu Gentle Palette at Funktionærmessen Restaurant.
