Some journeys are worth planning around a season. Winter in the far north is one of them. Clear, dark Arctic skies, the slow northward pull of Norway's coast, and nights beneath the glass roofs of Finnish Lapland, where the aurora can appear directly overhead. These are journeys that move at the pace of the season and the light, pairing a Havila coastal voyage with time among the people and landscapes above the Arctic Circle.
We have two small group tours open for early booking this winter. Both combine the Finnish Lapland aurora cabins with a Havila coastal voyage along Norway's coast, run in opposite directions, and differ in length and starting point.
Our Experience the Northern Lights journey runs 15 days from Oslo to Ivalo, taking in Oslo, the scenic railway to Flåm, a fjord cruise, and a northbound coastal voyage before three nights in Lapland. Our Chase the Northern Lights Express journey runs 11 days from Ivalo to Bergen, opening in Lapland before a southbound coastal voyage ends in Bergen. Both are capped at 18 guests with a tour leader throughout, including the coastal voyage.
