5 days - Short Sweden Winter Tour in a boutique family run lodge

One of the best places to experience the Northern Lights is in the remote area of the Lapland Guesthouse, far out in the forest on a cold winter night in the serene Arctic wilderness.

It is impossible to predict when the Northern Lights will occur. But at Lapland Guesthouse, in the Arctic landscape, you will have the perfect conditions to experience the magic show.

For four nights, make yourself at home in an authentic, family-run property in a remote location in Swedish Lapland, 150 km above the Arctic Circle. Owned by Johan and Eva Stenevad, this boutique guesthouse has a homely, rustic feel with a personal, informal touch. With only 5 traditional wooden cottages with a total of 13 rooms, this is a great little hideaway with plenty of adventures in the surrounding wilderness – perfect for someone looking for something truly authentic.

Disconnect from the world and immerse yourself in the traditions and hospitality of Lapland. Its magical atmosphere and hauntingly beautiful setting will make this short break one not to forget. The Arctic sky will be twinkling and the snow ready for snow angels, tobogganing and your family.

    Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Kiruna, visit the ICEHOTEL with guided tour then drive to guesthouse

Arrive Kiruna and transfer to your lodge. Located on the banks of the Lainio River in the small village of Kangos in northern Sweden, it’s a two-hour drive through a winter wonderland. Stop along the way at the famous Swedish ICEHOTEL and take your time exploring with a guide and lunch.

Upon arrival at this small family run lodge, check into your cabin and receive your winter gear near reception. For families, there is a very comfortable Viking Cabin, which fuses a snow-inspired and Viking theme. It feels like a home away from home, with two bedrooms, a loft, a living area and a bathroom, not to mention a lovely fireplace that keep you toasty warm each evening.

Enjoy a two-course dinner before settling in somewhere to see if the Northern Lights makes a show.

Day 2 - Ice-fishing and then optional warm up in the Sauna before cooking your catch

Imagine walking straight out into the middle of a lake, sitting down in the frosty landscape. This is reality when you go ice-fishing. Venturing out on a lake, drilling a hole and visiting the world below. Your guides will make a fire to prepare hot coffee and lunch on.

Ice-Fishing is a truly serene experience which takes some patience but really gives you time to adore the surrounding nature. This truly lets you wind down from the buzz of the world and is quite the thrill when you feel movement on the rod.

Back at the guesthouse you can warm up in the optional sauna. Then hopefully, the chef will cook your catch or something similar and trade stories around the dinner table. Delicious meals are served at a large communal table each evening. Locally sourced and home-cooked, the dishes are inspired by traditional Lapland cuisine and your hosts are happy to cater to fussy kids and any special dietary requirements.

Day 3 - Visit the Reindeers by Snowmobile

Reindeer is, and has always been, a large part of traditional life in Sápmi(Lapland). On this day tour, you will experience a reindeer safari and get close and comfy with these amazing animals.

After breakfast, you will snowmobile out to the Reindeer farm. Travelling on a snow-mobile through untouched nature is an exciting and unforgettable adventure. With the help of the snow-mobile, you can reach places that are almost entirely inaccessible for the rest of the year.

To drive a Snowmobile you need a valid driving license. No previous experience is required, the guides will teach you all about how to safely drive a snow-mobile - two people share a snowmobile. If you don’t have a driver’s license or for those who are too small, it is no problem to ride behind or in a sleigh. You will be provided with warm outerwear and helmets that are adapted to the landscape’s climate.

Day 4 - Husky Safari and Festive Dinner

The forest is covered with a thick snow cover and the ice crystals sparkle in the sunlight. At the husky farm the eager dogs are waiting, loudly barking and ready for adventure. When the sleigh is released, the dogs go silent in an instant, focused on the task and soon you are out on the track through frozen wetlands.

Today, you will ride through the breathtaking winter landscape behind the beautiful huskies. Not a sound is heard – except your own breathing and the sleigh skids sliding on the snow. Travelling in silence with a dog sleigh cannot be fully described in words – it must be experienced. It is a peaceful feeling, being in nature and following the dogs rhythm over the snow.

The dog sleigh safaris are led by experienced husky guides who work small-scale with great care for their dogs as well as for the pristine nature.

After your adventure, return to the guesthouse for a festive last night's dinner.
