5 days | Independent tour | Dec-Mar | Rovaniemi to Ranua

Classic Standard – This is an updated itinerary that has the same thoughtful route design, trusted local partnerships and carefully paced experiences that define our travel styles, with accommodation centred on comfortable hotels in convenient locations.

Nestled in a beautiful location in the middle of Finnish Lapland, Ranua Wildlife Park, just south of the Arctic Circle, is home to a great variety of native and other wildlife. Ranua Wildlife Park’s species in the EEP list include polar bears, wolverines, wolves, otters, dholes, musk oxen, European mink, sea eagles, Pallas’s cat, and the snowy owl.

With your own sauna, lounge with log fire and kitchen in these semi-detached wooden houses, you have a great spot to relax with your family. For a finale, spend your final night in the Arctic glass igloos!

Later, in the backwoods of Ranua, close to the Ranua Wildlife Park, you have the chance to visit Santa in his very, very secret place, his Hideout Cabin in the wilderness. Within merely a 10 minute ride, you will see a tiny light flickering from far away. As you come closer and closer, you will see a tiny wooden cabin appearing in the shimmering darkness, with candle lights flickering in the windows, smoke rising up from the chimney.

Day 3 - Snowmobile safari to a reindeer farm & evening Northern Lights tour

The snowmobile safari starts with driving instructions, after which we head towards Laivala, a small, authentic reindeer farm. The reindeer herder welcomes the visitors and takes you on a reindeer sled ride for a little less than one kilometre. After the reindeer ride, the owners of the farm will tell you more about reindeer husbandry and living in harmony with nature while you enjoy a warm drink and cookies.

Two persons share one snowmobile, and there will be a chance to change drivers. Children travel in a sleigh pulled by a guide on snowmobile. All drivers must have a valid driving licence.

After dinner, get ready for an evening Northern Lights tour. Follow your guide from the Holiday Villas to the snowmobile track to receive instructions on how to drive the snowmobile in the evening. The snowmobiles have excellent headlights that guarantee good visibility, even on dark forest trails. We take a couple of short breaks on the way and enjoy a cup of hot juice by an open fire at the halfway point. If we are lucky, we will be treated to one of the most amazing natural phenomena in the world: the Northern Lights.

Two persons share a snowmobile, and children will travel in the sled pulled by the guide.

Day 4 - Go dogsledding on the Husky Safari and then sleep in a Glass Igloo

This morning, check out of your apartment and enjoy a free morning or spend time in the Wildlife Park. Later head out on a Husky Safari.

After a briefing on how to handle and steer your sled, set off through the snowy wilderness on an unforgettable husky safari. Travel along scenic winter trails behind a team of enthusiastic huskies, experiencing one of the Arctic's most traditional forms of transport.

Each sled accommodates two adults and one child, with the opportunity for both adults to take turns driving during the journey. As you glide through the pristine landscape, enjoy the excitement and energy of the dogs as they lead you through the winter wonderland.

Following the safari, meet the huskies and learn more about these remarkable working dogs. Your guides will share insights into their training, care, and daily life, and you'll have the opportunity to ask questions about this unique Arctic tradition.

On your return, check into your Glass Igloo accommodation. It is 8 km between accommodation and you will be privately transferred. Your luggage will be looked after.

The Arctic Glass Igloos are located by the beautiful Lake Ranuanjärvi, far from city lights. Each igloo has an unobstructed view of ice-covered waters and treeless northern horizons where the Northern Lights usually appear. As you are on the Arctic Circle, sightings are frequent when the sky is dark and clear

Experience a Glass Igloo stay without compromising your comfort. Each well-equipped igloo has a kitchenette, toilet, shower and even a sauna. The entrance, sauna and toilet are on the side of the igloos facing the forest, with wooden walls for privacy. There is approximately 10 metres between each igloo, all with views of the lake.

When lunch isn't included, you have the option to dine at the restaurant adhoc, cater in your room or visit Ranua village (ca 3km away), which can be arranged with the reception for an extra cost.
