Turku Castle
Turku Castle is a more than 700 year old historical monument. It has stood guard over the river Aura estuary since the 1280’s. Its granite stone walls hold within them the history of Finland, Sweden and the other Nordic countries.
The Castle has seen eras of both grandeur and of decline. It has served as a fortification, an administrative centre and a stately palace. The Castle housed a prison, served as a storehouse and as barracks. A little over a hundred years ago a museum was founded in the Castle, and it has been one of the most popular tourist destination in Finland ever since.
