Summer restaurants to visit on your Nordic Holiday

Just on the fringe of our capitals, these restaurants offer memorable dining experiences.

Consider these Scandinavian restaurants for something different on your tour. Just on the fringe of our capitals, these restaurants offer memorable dining experiences on nature's doorstep.

Copenhagen Countryside Restaurant:

Den Røde Cottage holds a star in the Guide Michelin Nordic Cities. It offers culinary treats a little north of Copenhagen close by the water in idyllic settings. Here you can enjoy a cosy evening in the company of modern gourmet food, created by the restaurant’s experienced and reputable chefs. Their ambition is to offer an experience based on the generosity of nature, the changing seasons, and the kitchen’s careful preparation of exquisite ingredients. It is 20 minutes to travel by car from our Director's choice hotel in Copenhagen.

Stockholm Castle Garden Restaurant:

During a visit to Stockholm, we recommend escaping to the Slottsträdgårdens Kafé (Castle Garden Café) at the entrance of the Royal Park in Malmö. It is run by Tareq Taylor, a chef and TV-personality from Sweden with a 25-year career behind him. Open between late March and late September, it is a lovely spot to visit for lunch.

Bergen Ocean Island Restaurant:

In the summer, Bergen can become a busy place to visit. Why not eat at the water's edge at the unique Cornelius restaurant, on a small island close to Bergen. On beautiful summer days, the restaurant opens the sliding doors and set up tables on the pier, where they serve lighter dishes. When the weather is less favourable, they create a cosy atmosphere indoors and serve food with stronger flavours and light up the candles and the fireplace.

If you want to head out to Cornelius, there is a shuttle boat from the main pier in Bergen - Monday - Saturday at 6pm. You need to reserve this shuttle boat. Experience a beautiful trip among the skerries, from Bryggen wharf in the City of Bergen to Holmen at Bjorøy as you ferry out to the island. Cornelius is open all year but closed on Sundays.

Oslo Mountain top Restaurant:

Grefsenkollen is a peak in the northeast of Oslo offering spectacular views of the city. There are many ways to get to the top, it is an easy hour's walk to the top or a quick taxi ride. Once at the top, take a walk down to Trollvann lake to fully escape into nature.

Grefsenkollen is home to one of our secret restaurants. This fairy-tale chalet has a spacious terrace, a characterful open-fired dining room and lovely views over the city and fjord. Appealing 3 and 5 course dinner menus are well balanced, intricate and playful - Norwegian ingredients take centre stage. You can also just enjoy fresh coffee and cakes after your forest walk.
