Visa to the Nordic region
At the time of writing Australian, US and New Zealand citizens do not require a visa to visit a Nordic country. However, the EU has been preparing for a new arrival documenting and visa system, anticipated to arrive in 2025, the EES and ETIAS system.
It is anticipated, six months after the EES automated entry and exit system is in place across the EU (currently not in operation, February 2025), citizens from US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand need to apply for ETIAS Visa Waiver. The ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) visa waiver program will be needed to enter a Schengen member country. All visitors that currently do not need a visa to enter Europe will be expected to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization. The ETIAS visa waiver has been designed for short-term stays of up to 90 days. It is anticipated that this ETIAS visa application will be quick to obtain online at a small cost.
