Jukkasjärvi
Home to ICEHOTEL, this little trading village is now a peak holiday destination.
Situated on the banks of the Torne River, the small village of Jukkasjärvi lies about 17 km from Kiruna in Swedish Lapland. For centuries the area served as a meeting place and trading hub for Sámi reindeer herders, merchants and travellers moving through the Arctic region.
Today, Jukkasjärvi is best known as the home of the world-famous ICEHOTEL, which has transformed the village into one of the most unique winter destinations in Scandinavia.
Despite its international reputation, Jukkasjärvi remains a small and peaceful Arctic community surrounded by forests, frozen rivers and wide open landscapes. During winter, visitors come to experience activities such as dog sledding, snowmobiling, Northern Lights excursions and Sámi cultural experiences.
In summer, the midnight sun illuminates the surrounding wilderness and the Torne River becomes a place for fishing, canoeing and exploring the quiet Arctic landscapes.
Thanks to its proximity to Kiruna Airport, Jukkasjärvi is easily accessible and is often combined with visits to Abisko National Park, Narvik in Norway and other destinations across Swedish Lapland.
