Day 2 - Reindeer Feeding, sledding and Aurora Tour

Meet your guide this morning and walk together (or toboggan slide) to the Reindeer island. Your reindeer sleigh is awaiting and will take you on a peaceful winter adventure in a traditional ‘raito’ where the reindeer walk one after another each pulling a sleigh.

Sit back and enjoy the 800m sleigh ride through the snowy forest. Coffee is served by campfire in front of a traditional Laavu-shelter at the finishing point.

Afterwards, get a nice bag of lichen to feed to the reindeer. They come close and with a little patience they will eat from your hand. This is a good time to take close-up photos with reindeer too.

In the evening, join an exciting Northern lights search by car. After some research on the weather forecast, with a professional Aurora Hunter, you will drive it to places where the sky is most clear and the probability of seeing the Northern Lights is highest.

    Dinner at the hotel.

Day 3 - Husky Safari and Snow Shoeing

After breakfast, your husky musher will pick you up and take you to a family owned husky farm nearby. You will be given instructions on how to control the sleds, which you will ride in pairs. One sitting in the sleigh and the other one mushing. At the half point, you’ll be served hot drinks and you may swap places before heading back.

After lunch, return outdoors, putting on a pair of snowshoes and following the guide on the wintry forest paths. If you are lucky you might observe some animal tracks in the forest and maybe even see some arctic animals. This activity fits perfectly for those who are willing to explore the nearby nature by using their own muscle power. Snowshoeing might look easy but it's actually a great exercise!

    SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL:

Your glass igloo hosts in Ivalo were the first accommodation in Northern Lapland to receive the Green Key award, the leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry. This prestigious eco-label represents a commitment by businesses that their premises adhere to the strict criteria set by the Foundation for Environmental Education. Some examples of how they carry this out include offering recycling facilities in all cabins and no longer offering plastic bottles in accommodations, along with protecting the diversity of the surrounding nature, i.e., bird house and insect hotels. Hiking, biking, and skiing tracks are direct from the hotel and as such they encourage low carbon activities such as snowshoeing and toboggans.
