4 days - Sámi cultural experiences on this short Autumn stay

In the far north of Finnish Lapland, on the edge of beautiful Lake Inari, the new Wilderness Hotel Inari is a remote retreat where wild forests and lakes provide the backdrop to the day’s adventures. In Autumn, the leaves on the trees turn orange and yellow, the tundra turns to the most beautiful hues of red, and the entire landscape explodes into incredible colours.

Besides the autumn-colours, also the Northern Lights season begins. Even though the Northern Lights are often associated with cold and snowy winter scenery, it doesn't mean they don't show in the milder months! The Finns even have a specific name for the autumn auroras, Double Auroras, because of the reflection they create when they are dancing above the lake.

    SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL:

As a Nordic destination specialist, one of our guiding principles is to share the beauty of the region while helping to protect it for the future. One way we do this is by encouraging travel outside the busy winter months.

Northern lights travel is usually associated with the colder period from December to February, when visitor numbers are at their highest and local facilities are most stretched. This itinerary offers an alternative. It encourages travel in autumn, when traveller numbers are lower, which helps spread the benefits and the pressures of tourism more evenly across the seasons. It also shows the region in a different but equally rewarding season, away from the busiest times.

Your accommodation holds the Green Key eco-label, a leading international standard for environmental responsibility in tourism, and is currently working towards certification under Visit Finland's Sustainable Travel Finland program. Its environmental practices include reducing water and energy use, recycling most of its waste, sourcing food locally where possible, replacing single-use cups with more sustainable alternatives, and keeping safaris to marked trails to limit habitat damage.

The Sámi are the only indigenous people of the European Union, and the village of Inari is the centre of Finnish Sámi culture. Your accommodation provider employs and works with the local Sámi community, is one of the larger employers in the area, and presents local art and culture within its properties. It also supports local children's and young people's activities through donations and the use of its vehicles.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Weather conditions may occasionally affect certain activities, and as a result, the schedule may be adjusted to ensure the best possible experience for all guests. For multi-activity stays, often the order of the activities will be confirmed locally on arrival. Activities might vary slightly in their duration or location due to the weather and local conditions. Any activities that are unable to be re-scheduled due to weather conditions, will be refunded as a general practice, as determined by the activity provider.
