Kalvåg

Kalvåg - one of Fjord Norway's best preserved fishing villages

Kalvåg sits on the southeast side of the island of Frøya, on the coast along Frøysjøen strait at the southern entrance to Nordfjorden, in Bremanger Municipality, Vestland county. It is widely regarded as the best-preserved fishing town in Norway's fjord region, and arriving here makes it easy to understand why.

The harbour is still working. Boats come and go, fishing gear lines the docks, and the fishermen here are not performing their occupation for visitors. You can rent a hot tub or sauna on the water's edge, wander the harbour, and fall into conversation with the people who actually live and work in this place.

Kalvåg is small, and it makes no effort to be something it is not. There are limited cafes and restaurants, so come prepared. But for travellers who want to see a Norwegian coastal community that has held its shape across generations, that quietness is the point.
