Old Riga
Old Riga is the historical and geographical centre of Riga on the right bank of the Daugava. Old Riga covers a relatively small inner area of the 13th-18th century fortifications where unique monuments of medieval architecture which, surprisingly, have survived two world wars are concentrated.
Vibrant Vecrīga, the old town, is home to churches like the medieval Riga Cathedral and St. Peter's Church, with a towering steeple. Overlooking the River Daugava, turreted Riga Castle is now the presidential residence, while the ornate red-brick House of the Black Heads exhibits artwork and weapons. Narrow stone streets and broad plazas like Dome Square and Līvu Square are lined with lively restaurants and pubs.
