National Museum of Norway

Norway's National Museum of Art, Architceture and Design is the largest art musuem in the Nordic Region and is a significant addition to the European cultural landscape. It is located right on Oslo's main harbour near Rådhusplassen (City Hall Square) and displays more than 5000 works from collections that travel from antiquity to the modern day.

There is a room dedicated to Munch, of course with some of his most important works including the Scream included. You can visit the LIGHT HALL, a unique space for temporary exhibitions, fitted with no less than 9000 energey-efficient LED lights to glow within the cityscape. There is a historic collection is medieval tapestries, royal gowns and works by the likes of Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso.

Of course, the gift shop is tempting with locally produced souvenirs and being right in the hub of the city, sit down to people watch at the cafe and restaurants within the museum or just outside at Aker Brygge.
