Ålesund Town is spectacularly located on small islands, where the fjords and mountains meet the ocean. The coastal city with a population of 50 000, is the largest between Trondheim and Bergen and one of Norway's most significant export ports.
Apotekergata 5, which today houses Restaurant MAKI and Hotel Brosundet, was originally a warehouse that processed the catch of the day from the fishermen. This was an important role for the fishing trade in western Norway.
Fish, crustaceans and seafood from along the Sunnmore and Runde coastline form the core of the menu, from delicate cured pollack fillets to crispy halibut and a sublimely creamy fish soup. Expensive, with a limited range of options. Ordering comes as a set course menu.

Adventurous seafood is the staple at this attractive, modern diner, one of a cluster of eating places owned by the same team. Local specialities like salt cod (Bacalao), pan-fried cod tongues and the self-proclaimed 'best fish soup in town' are all on the menu.
