ICEHOTEL
A totally 'cool' hotel in Swedish Lapland
Located in the village of Jukkasjärvi, about 17 km from Kiruna, the ICEHOTEL is one of Sweden’s most famous Arctic attractions and the world’s first hotel built entirely from ice and snow.
First opened in 1989, the ICEHOTEL is rebuilt every winter using ice harvested from the nearby Torne River. Artists from around the world gather in Jukkasjärvi each year to design and carve unique suites, sculptures and art installations. The hotel typically opens in December and operates until April, when the structure gradually melts and returns to the river.
Staying overnight in the ice rooms is a truly memorable experience. Guests sleep on beds covered with reindeer skins and insulated with thermal sleeping bags to keep warm throughout the Arctic night. Adjacent warm facilities include showers, changing areas and saunas for comfort during the stay.
For travellers who prefer a traditional room, the ICEHOTEL complex also offers warm accommodation, including hotel rooms and Scandinavian-style cabins.
Each winter, visitors from around the world travel to Jukkasjärvi to experience the ICEHOTEL, the surrounding wilderness and the opportunity to see the Northern Lights in the dark Arctic skies of Swedish Lapland.
ICEHOTEL 365
ICEHOTEL 365 is a permanent ice structure located next to the seasonal hotel. Using solar-powered cooling technology, the building allows guests to experience ice suites year-round, even during the summer months.
The complex includes an ice bar, art gallery and a number of individually designed ice suites, all created by international artists. Some deluxe suites also feature heated bathrooms, private saunas and warm changing areas, combining the adventure of sleeping on ice with the comfort of modern facilities.
