Itinerary

Day 1 - Welcome to Finnish Lapland's Arctic Wilderness

Touch down in Kuusamo and begin your journey into one of Finland's most pristine wilderness regions. Located just south of the Arctic Circle, the Ruka-Kuusamo area is renowned for its vast forests, frozen lakes and untouched fells, with some of the cleanest air in the world. This northern landscape has been shaped by reindeer herding, forestry and outdoor traditions, and locals embrace a deep connection to nature that is reflected in everyday life. After a short transfer from the airport, arrive at the high-end boutique-style Lumo Resort, where wilderness stretches in every direction and the pace of life slows to match the rhythm of the Arctic.

After settling into your Aurora Room or Aurora Spa Room, take time to soak up your surroundings. Floor-to-ceiling glass roofs offer uninterrupted views of the Arctic sky, giving you the chance to spot the Northern Lights from the comfort of your bed should conditions allow. Guests staying in Aurora Spa Rooms can also unwind in their private outdoor hot tub beneath the stars.

This evening, enjoy a welcome dinner showcasing the flavours of northern Finland before stepping outside to experience the stillness that makes this corner of Lapland so special.

Day 2 - Reindeer Traditions & Santa Experience

Slow down and embrace one of Lapland's most cherished winter traditions with a reindeer sleigh ride through the snowy surroundings of Lumo Resort. Wrapped up warm beneath the winter sky, glide peacefully through the pristine wilderness as your reindeer gently pulls the sleigh along snow-covered trails. It's a wonderful opportunity to experience the tranquillity of the Arctic and discover the important role reindeer have played in northern Finnish life for centuries.

Following your sleigh ride, spend time getting to know the resort's resident reindeer and learn more about the traditions that continue to shape life across Finnish Lapland. The peaceful surroundings and snow-covered landscape create a truly authentic Arctic experience.

Later today, the magic continues with a visit to Santa's Cottage. Travel through the winter wonderland to meet Santa himself in a cosy and festive setting. Enjoy a warm chat, hear stories from the Far North, and watch children's faces light up during this unforgettable encounter. Each guest will receive a small gift, making this a truly special family memory and a highlight of your Lapland adventure.

After returning to the resort, enjoy dinner and another evening beneath the Arctic sky, with the chance to spot the Northern Lights from your glass-roofed accommodation.

Day 3 - Snowmobile Adventure

After breakfast, get ready to experience one of Lapland's most iconic winter activities as you set off on a guided snowmobile safari through the snow-covered landscapes of Ruka-Kuusamo. Follow your guide along forest trails and across open winter scenery, discovering the beauty of the Arctic wilderness in a way that locals have done for generations. Snowmobiles have long been an important mode of transport in northern Finland, allowing people to travel across vast snowy terrain throughout the winter months.

As you journey through the pristine landscape, enjoy breathtaking views of frozen forests and sparkling snowfields before stopping for a warm drink and light snack. The silence of the surrounding wilderness creates a truly unforgettable Arctic experience.

For younger adventurers, a mini snowmobile experience offers the chance to enjoy the excitement of driving their own snowmobile on a safe, fenced track within the resort. Designed especially for children, it's the perfect introduction to one of Lapland's favourite winter activities.

Return to the resort with the afternoon free to relax in your glass-roofed accommodation, explore the snowy surroundings, or take in the views of the Arctic landscape. Families and those looking for a little extra fun can also make use of the resort's illuminated sledding and tubing hill, located in the heart of the property. Grab a traditional sled or inflatable tube and enjoy a few exhilarating runs down the snowy slope, a favourite winter pastime for both children and adults in Finland.

As evening falls, keep watch on the northern sky for another opportunity to witness the magical Northern Lights. Enjoy a three-course dinner at the resort's restaurant tonight.

Please note that this is an example schedule and the exact day and time of the activities will be confirmed closer to departure.

Day 4 - Meet Lapland's Legendary Sled Dogs & Relax in a Traditional Finnish Sauna

After breakfast, meet a team of energetic huskies and discover why sled dogs have been an important part of life in the North for generations. Bred for endurance and a love of running, these remarkable dogs are at their happiest when racing through the snow-covered forests of Lapland.

Learn about the care and training of the huskies before setting off on an unforgettable safari through the winter landscape. As your sled glides along snowy trails, you'll experience the speed, excitement and beauty that have made dog sledding one of Lapland's most iconic activities. Depending on conditions, longer routes may venture onto frozen lakes, offering sweeping views across the pristine winter scenery.

After your ride, warm up in a traditional Finnish kota with hot drinks and light snacks while hearing stories about the region's dog-sledding traditions.

This afternoon, embrace another essential part of Finnish culture with a traditional sauna experience. Nestled among the forest beside the resort, the sauna offers a chance to slow down and unwind just as Finns have done for centuries. In Finland, sauna is more than relaxation; it's a way of life and an important part of wellbeing, especially during the long Arctic winter.

This evening, gather for dinner before settling in for another night beneath the northern sky.

Please note that this is an example schedule and the exact day and time of the activities will be confirmed closer to departure.
