7 day - Tromsø and the Reindeer Ranch glass igloos independent tour
This 7-day tour combines Tromsø with the Reindeer Ranch glass igloos in Kilpisjärvi, right on the border of Finland and Norway. Spacious glass igloos in Kilpisjärvi, the northwesternmost corner of Finland, are a phenomenal way to experience the beauty of Arctic nature. What makes this experience extra special is that it is located at an authentic and secluded Sámi reindeer herding ranch with only four glass igloos available on the shores of the lake. This is as exclusive, remote, and authentic as you can get!
As a Certified B Corporation, 50 Degrees North has designed this tour using handpicked local hoteliers and suppliers who share our ethos of delivering services and activities of high social and environmental standards.
The CO2-e per person per day of all tours is carefully measured following each season. We fully offset all emissions of our tours on your behalf, and we constantly look at ways to reduce emissions where possible.

After breakfast, you are met by our guide at your hotel and brought outdoors on a historical and cultural city walk through Tromsø city. During this walk you visit the Polar Museum with your guide. This museum contains the history of the Arctic explorers Amundsen, Nansen and Scott. The walk ends at the Polaria aquarium and environmental centre.
In the evening, you have the option of enjoying a Northern Lights Cruise (additional supplement applies) or having a relaxing dinner in one of Tromsø's many restaurants.
After breakfast, check-out and transfer from Tromsø to the Tamok Valley. Upon arrival, you will be provided with warm winter clothing and begin dog sledding with thorough safety instructions and a practical demonstration. Two people share each sled and dog team. One is the “musher” (driver) and the other can sit back and enjoy the ride. You can switch places midway during the 12 km dog sledding trail. Depending on snow conditions, you will spend approx. 1 hr 30 min to complete the trail.
After the dog sledding adventure, you will be served a hot meal in a traditional North Norwegian setting around the open fire in a reindeer herder’s tent. After relaxing and warming up, you will continue on to tonight's accommodation, the Reindeer Range Glass Igloos.
Check in and settle into your remote Glass Igloo.

This is the all-time fastest and easiest Scandinavian tour: it takes less than a minute to visit three countries. The yellow border mark of Finland, Sweden and Norway stands about 15 kilometres from Kilpisjärvi village in Koltavuoma. This is called the world´s most peaceful border. You will be following the Snowmobile trail that runs from Kilpisjärvi to Koltavuoma mostly on frozen lake and follows the border of Finland and Sweden, winding by the side of Malla strict Nature Reserve. On the way back you will stop for a coffee break.
After an eventful day in the Finnish Lappish nature, a one-of-a-kind sauna experience is in store for you: The Arctic Land Sauna at Vasara Reindeer Ranch.
The Arctic Land Sauna sits on the shore of Lake Peera, in an exquisite setting at Vasara Reindeer Ranch and offers enjoyment and relaxation all year round. From November to April there are reindeer roaming freely on the grounds, and being inquisitive by nature they may wander up to keep you company while you’re soaking in the hot tub or lounging on the deck in between your bathing sessions. A sauna experience at the Ranch can be equally spellbinding in summer while you marvel at the nightless nights. The darkening evenings from late summer onwards may pamper you with the greatest light show on earth – the Aurora Borealis.
Your host Nils-Matti is a 12th generation Sámi reindeer herder. Very few Sámi people today are full-time reindeer herders, and Nils-Matti is one of those few. His way of life echoes the life his ancestors lived here for 500 years.
Nils-Matti invites you to join him on a rare and exclusive journey which takes you out on the vast, frozen tundra of his home region, the Käsivarsi Wilderness Area of Northwestern Lapland.
The excursion starts with a car transfer from the Village of Kilpisjärvi to Vasara Reindeer Ranch at Lake Peera. There are no roads in the wilderness and therefore there will be a change of vehicles at the Ranch, and the trip continues on snowmobile sledge.
You will be provided warm snowmobiling gear and blankets for your journey out to the tundra. The route is not predefined and Nils-Matti will contact your driver-guide to provide instructions where to find him - and the herd. Nils-Matti spends most of his time out in the wilds, tending to his reindeer herd, but it's the reindeer who determine the whereabouts, and reindeer are led by the wind.
Once at the meeting point, be it a half-hour or an hour away, you can observe Nils-Matti at his chores and help him feed his herd. Close-up encounters with the reindeer are on the agenda, just keep your camera ready! Nils-Matti will share with you stories of his work, his family and his way of life during lunch which is enjoyed out in the open.
Return back for your final night in the Glass Igloos.
After breakfast, private transfer to the airport.
