Silent Whale Watching

Experience the magnificent Kaldfjord, on Kvaloya outside Tromsø, onboard the award winning electric sailing ship Opal.

Sail amongst snow-covered mountains that rise more than 1000 meters from the sea. Look for whales, wild eagles and other marine wildlife or simply enjoy the wonderful polar daylight where majestic mountains and beautiful scenery form the backdrop. Alongside experienced guides trained in responsible wildlife tourism and traditional sail handling, we step aboard Opal. Built in 1952, this traditional oak sailboat is fitted with a first of its kind hybrid electric engine that allows us not only to glide silently through the fjord but also to minimize our impact on the environment by using renewable energy.

Gaze at the scenery and have the chance to learn about how to sail a traditionally rigged boat outside on deck, or soak up the atmosphere down below deck and warm up next to the wood burning stove. In true Viking-style we set sail and glide silently into the polar daylight and if the conditions are right we might experience the northern lights dance over our heads. During our sailing, we will serve a little Viking style refreshment.
