Hurtigruten & Norway's hidden gems

Stay longer along Norway's magnificent coast and explore it's hidden gems.

Hurtigruten (literally "the fast route" in Norwegian) is a ferry line along Norway's jagged coastline. The voyage combines well-known towns and regions like Bergen, Ålesund, Trondheim, Lofoten and Tromsø, with lesser-known coastal secrets like Romsdalsfjorden, Helgeland, the UNESCO World Heritage listed Vega islands, Vesterålen, Senja and Lyngsfjorden.

We have created a range of tours, called the ‘Norwegian Coast’, helping you stay longer along the Norwegian coast. These tours utilise coastal ferries, regional trains, buses and express boats to get you off the beaten track. We can custom-make these new tours to the length you need.

Never heard of these places and wondering how and why to visit these places? Read our short guide to where some of these hidden gems of Norway are along its coast.

Near Tromsø:

The road from Tromsø via Sommarøy and Senja to Å in Lofoten can easily be rated as one of the most picturesque summer drives in all of Norway. The stretch is connecting numerous larger and smaller islands of the outer North Norwegian coast, and does not pass over any of mainland Norway. You could call it island-hopping by car. The drive includes two ferry crossings and several bridges and underwater tunnels. Hurtigruten voyages can be added either side of this self-drive tour, Tromsø, Senja & Lofoten

Near Trondheim:

Spending a few days in the Helgeland region means you can include a visit by foot, boat or bike to famous landmarks, such as Torghatten, De Syv Søstre (The Seven Sisters mountain range), Svartisen glacier and Saltstraumen (world’s strongest whirlpools).

Adventures come in all size and shapes in this region such as boat tours to visit the glaciers, deep sea fishing, bike riding, family friendly fishing and glacier walking.
